Merry Christmas

Hello All,

Merry Christmas to every one,
Holly, bought at the Margaret River Growers Markets this morning, 24 Dec 2011
I found some holly at the Margaret River Farmers Markets this morning. I also found a some yummy pastries for breakfast. The markets open at 8am, they were packed with queues at 7.45am. I was worried I wasn't going to get my pastry snail from the Margaret River Bakery. Mum loves the spinach pies from the guy that drives all the way from Ballingup. I also bought some blueberries picked straight from the bush and the lavender/lemon grass soap.

We shopped at IGA for all the other things we couldn't get at the markets. Also stocking up on the Christmas Cheer at Settlers Bottle Shop. Last minute pressie shopping at the Margaret River Bookshop. Topped off by a double shot latte at White Elephant.

I drove Mum out to see the damage of the fires. Upsetting. But, what was uplifting and hopeful, was, the new shoots appearing.

Mum has been slaving away in my primitive kitchen, she has deboned a turkey and stuffed it asian style. We did it once, almost 20 years ago, we are just having a discussion about it and she says "what is this 'WE' pale face!", so, I have had to remind her of the WE bit. WE are both in to the 'deboning' thing. She, has taught me. I can remember the occasion.. I was in trouble because I had poured boiling water on the turkey 'before' we deboned it. So the skin was cooked and almost impossible to sew back together again. When you pour boiling water over the skin and roast the poultry, it makes the skin crispier.

I will take a photo and post it if it turns out. If anyone wants the recipe I will gladly write that up also.

Mum has also shelled a kilo and a half of prawns (bought from 34 degrees South) for my prawn cocktails, oh dear, she's stuffed!

A big day for the doggies, Mum and I. Lots of visitors; my bro and family, as visitors, they have been jogging, cycling and driving around Margs. My Daddy has driven down from Perth, checked out my little shack for the first time. Madge popped in to say Merry Christmas, she looks so gorgeous in her Ambulance outfit.
